“Oh yes, the skies are friendly, but you didn’t make it to the sky, did you, Doc? Look out that window. Does it appear that this plane is flying to you? This is the ground, bitch, and you have something I want: that seat. Give it up. Or I’ll have Dwight and Simon here rough you up and take that seat from you.”

I was more interested in the underground races. Houston must have some serious tunnels (which surprised me given the water table and all).

The memes are funny.
The “I’m a millennial who’s never interacted with the operations, businesses, or regulatory side of commercial aviation, here’s my thinkpiece,” people are just annoying.

There were a series of errors made in this situation, not all of them by United. The largest blunder was the airline not immediately coming out hat in hand and profusely apologizing for the situation. The people who actually roughed up the guy weren’t United employees. If I understand it correctly, the flight itself was operated by a subcontractor.
Were there mistakes? Absolutely. Those people to whom you described denouncing this event as proof that capitalism is bad don’t understand business in the slightest, though, and are ignoring the facts of the case. But, hey, narrative!

Oh yeah United messed up, both in the crew scheduling (trying to repossession 4 employees via E-jet on a Sunday night?!), handling the situation, and trusting Chicago PD. Offering the four people $2000 vouchers, or even chartering a small jet, would have been far cheaper.

Clarification: they should have considered chartering the employees, not the passengers. If you charter the passengers, then they all want charters.

Wait until the lawsuit comes. That’s where the real expense will come into play.

How hard is it to realize you aren’t better than every other passenger on the plane?
